One of my favorite musical groups from the ’90s was and still is Tony Toni Tone. In 1991 the group released their chart-topping album, The Revival. The album spent two weeks at number one on the U.S. R&B charts. One of my favorite slow jams on the record was, “Whatever You Want.” In the song, Dwayne Wiggins sings an ode to his love interest promising that whatever she wants, he can be the one to provide it.
Claiming not to wish her bad luck or strain, Wiggins proclaims that he only wants to expose his girl to the finer things. Between showing off his new ride and taking her on shopping sprees, the singer wants her to feel her best. He wants to make sure she has whatever she wants.
God is pursuing us just like a lovestruck crooner, but with greater reward. For the Creator to provide all we desire; the Divine requires faith and intimacy. In Mark 11:24, Jesus gives a lesson to the disciples on faith. He says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.” So much of what we desire has played in the previews of our minds, but it’s our faith that propels the vision into fruition.
Just like the singer declares offering his company, God desires an intimate relationship with you. God wants to be involved in your daily life and activities. The more you commune and spend time with God, the more you see he wishes to give you everything you want. John 15:7 says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” In other words, the more time you spend time with God, the better he can assess your needs and make good on the promise to deliver whatever you want.
There is no limit to where God wants to take your life. The only limitations are the ones you place by closing yourself off to spirit and truth. Determine what you want, write it down and co-sign it with the Divine. Activate big prayers this week. Whatever you want, God wants to provide.
