In 2013, rapper Drake came out with one of the hottest songs of the year entitled, “No New Friends.” In the song, he boasts of riding with the same group of friends he has had since childhood. These friends are loyal and have remained down since day one. With its, catchy beat and melodic sound, you can’t help but make this your friend anthem.
At the end of 2018, I made that declaration that I was accepting new friend request. Similar to Facebook and less like Drake, I was ready to take new friends into my life. Not that there was anything wrong with the people I had in my life, I desired a change.
Periodically, your friendships need to be assessed to see if they are still working. Just like your phone, computer, and wardrobe need to be updated from time to time, so do your friendships.
Studies have proven that you are the average of the five people you spend most of your time. Take a look at your goals and aspirations and see if your circle of friends is propelling you forward or keeping you stuck and stagnant. It may be time to reassess your tribe.
Whether you desire to build wealth, create a healthier lifestyle or launch a business to transform people’s lives; your circle of influence is key to your success. Your friends are your team. If your team doesn’t compliment your talents and compensate for your weaknesses, you are on a losing team.
Healthy, wealthy, transformational people run in packs. If you want to run with them, you have to join their race at their pace. As Jack Canfield says, “You have to let go of the good to embrace great." If you want more success, you have to start hanging around more successful people.
Look in the mirror and get real with yourself this week. It may be your family or friends you have had since childhood that no longer fit into the new life you have or want, but it could be you. Remember, whatever you desire, you will acquire.
