Girl, Put the Bags Down

While talking to a friend last night, I had a revelation. Most people are stuck because they are carrying other folk’s bags. What do I mean? I mean, that most women are weighted down in the boat of mediocrity because they are holding on to the dreams, ideas, beliefs, and baggage of other people.

This friend expressed that she felt unmotivated and tired because all of her energy has gone to other people. But isn’t that how it usually happens? You give and give to others, and then when it is time to give to yourself, you are unmotivated and depleted of all your resources.

I believe our culture has become subconsciously focused on “securing the bag,” that we have grabbed bags that don’t belong to us in the process. Instead of picking up the pot of gold, we have picked up, discomfort, animosity, and resentment, but this doesn’t have to be your reality; you can put those bags down today.

Currently, I am reading Dr. Mao Shing Ni’s book, Secrets of Longevity: Hundreds of Ways to Live to Be 100. In the book, Dr. Ni says, the biggest stressor for many people is their attempt to please everyone. When we are overcommitted, we feel overwhelmed and out of control. When we are able to acknowledge our limitations and our need for peace by saying no to additional burdens, we reclaim control of our lives and reduce stress.

This week, I want you to focus all of your intentions on your well-being. Be intentional about your time. If your tribe has become burdensome by making withdraws and no deposits, you may need to rethink your circle of influence.

You were not meant to carry burdens; you were meant to thrive and carry your purpose to completion. Put down the bags and pick up your calling. Remember that your NO is a complete sentence, and it will make room for the YES you deserve. Get your breakthrough this week.
